Aishath Shirmeen holds a Master’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management and a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Hospitality and Leisure Management from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. She also earned a Diploma in Hospitality from Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies.

She joined the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FHTS) in 2004, bringing with her diverse industry experience, including roles as Sous Chef at Paradise Island Resort and Housekeeper at Central Hotel. These early professional experiences provided her with a strong foundation in both the operational and managerial dimensions of hospitality.

Since joining FHTS, she has undertaken extensive academic and leadership responsibilities. Actively involved in curriculum development and coursework design since 2015, she has played a key role in shaping and enhancing the faculty’s academic programs. Over the past two decades, she has also delivered professional training programs within the faculty and in collaboration with leading resorts across the Maldives.

Her academic and professional contributions reflect a strong commitment to advancing hospitality education in the country. She has also contributed internationally through her participation in the EU Labour Project (No. 101007766), during which she completed secondments in Portugal and Turkey. Passionate about her field, she remains dedicated to enriching student learning experiences while fostering closer links between academia and industry.
