Dr. Benjamin Baumann

Assistant Professor at the Institute of Anthropology in the Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies

Dr. Benjamin Baumann is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Anthropology in the Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies, with a focus on the Theravada Buddhist societies of Mainland Southeast Asia and especially Thailand and Cambodia. He is an interdisciplinarily working ethnographer focusing on (trans-)women as lay ritual experts in possession rituals and mediumship cults but also on mediatized representations of the monstrous-feminine in Thai ghost films. He is currently coordinator of the international MA program “Sociocultural Anthropology”.
